Sexually transmitted diseases also known as STD , also known as STI ( sexually transmitted infections , are caused by a variety of bacteria, viruses, parasites and yeast. These are spread through intimate sexual contact such as intercourse and body fluid contact. Of all the STD’S some are of importance in causing long term disease and disability and even death.

Any type of sexual activity with a person already infected can lead to an infection. Risk factors vary depending on the STI and the specific sexual practice. Both men and women can be infected by STD and transmit the disease to their partner. A person who was previously treated for an std can be reinfected again if exposed to STD .By taking precautions and keeping the lines of communications open you and your partner can enjoy intimacy while keeping risks at a minimum.
Most of the STD’S are spread by intimate contact as well as contact with body fluids like semen, vaginal secretions, saliva, blood etc. Always use protection such as condoms and dental dams, when engaging in oral, vaginal or anal intercourse unless you are in a committed relationship with a partner is known to be disease free. Protected sex is not risk free, but it greatly reduces the risk of transmitting the infection. Avoid dangerous sexual behaviour such as unprotected sex with multiple partners, unprotected sex with someone you do not know well or engaging in sexual practices that may cause bleeding or skin tear. If you or your partner has symptoms of a STI, avoid intercourse until you are both tested.
The common symptoms of STI are burning or pain on urination, vaginal discharge, rash or sores on the penis, vagina or anal area, swollen lymph nodes, warts in the genital area, flu-like symptoms fatigue and yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes.
At Pulse Pointe Urgent Care, you can have the luxury of confidential STD testing seven days a week. You should get tested if you ever had unprotected sex with someone or if you have symptoms of STI. You do not have wait until you have symptoms to get an STD check. There is no single test that can screen for all STD’S. However, when you come for an STD testing you will be given a physical examination to check for signs of infection including genital sores, discharge or swollen lymph nodes. A urine sample will be taken for checking for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. Blood sample will be obtained for HIV and syphilis.
The cost of an STD test depends on whether the patient has insurance. You can also use one of of our STD packages when you self pay. Please call the office ahead of your visit to confirm self pay pricing . Participation in self pay pricing cannot be used in combination with commercial insurance benefits nor can it be provided to patients participating in US government health plans.
Same day prescriptions or treatment of some STI is available for exposed patients if the physician determines it is required. Prescriptions are not covered within the self pay pricing.
